Anna Cail, BA '33Anna Cail passed away in May, two days before her 98th birthday, but not before impacting the lives of many. Thousands of students had the opportunity of having Anna for a teacher over the years in the Central and North Okanagan before she retired in 1976. Politics and the Peace movement were among Anna's many interests, but her passion lay in conserving the history and heritage of her hometown of Vernon. Anna gained many friends over the years as a respectful and passionate person and will be truly missed. |
Gayle Stewart, BA '76With great sadness, we say goodbye to our wonderful alumna and friend, Gayle Stewart, who died June 25, 2009. Who says you can't go home again? Certainly not Gayle Stewart who, having completed a Bachelor of Arts at UBC in 1976, returned in 2008 to begin a Master of Arts program in political science. This time around, though, Gayle had extensive career experience on which to draw, with many years as both a successful journalist and a communications executive behind her. More about Gayle |
James Patrick Mills, BCom ’71Jim Mills F.C.A., born January 4, 1948, succumbed to an ongoing illness on January 12, 2008. Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dorothy, and daughter, Karina. While predeceased by his father, J.C. Pat Mills, and his mother, Trudy, Jim is remembered by his sisters Briar (Doug, Jenn, Jason) and Diane (Ron, Krysti, John) and by his mother-in-law, Ann Angus, along with the many members of his extended family of nieces and nephews. Jim was extremely well established in his chosen field as a Chartered Accountant and practiced briefly in Vancouver before making Kelowna his home for the past 30 years. In his role as a senior partner in the Okanagan office of the respected firm Grant Thornton, Jim provided his essential guidance to many valued clients, focusing on his expertise in taxation and estate planning, making their individual futures hopefully more secure. Jim aspired to live life to the fullest and ambitiously pursued his varied interests in golf, skiing, and boating. The mountains of BC and the waters of the Gulf of Georgia gave him great satisfaction. Reveling in the company and the true friendship of his acquaintances, both socially and through business, Jim made his life a special experience to be shared. |
