UBC Okanagan Heat 2 Langara College Falcons 0
UBC Okanagan Goal Scorers- Thomas Simkins (55th minute), Nick Pennington(86th minute)
Game Recap: The UBC Okanagan HEAT clinched their first win of the season win a convincing 2-0 score against the Langara College Falcons.
After a lack lustre first half, UBC Okanagan came out with an inspired second half to beat Langara College. Thomas Simkins began the scoring with a tremendous volley off a pass from Mitch Van Hanegem. The Falcons kept the pressure on the HEAT which tested the backline and goalkeeper Spencer Brown. Creative play from HEAT's Shane Mudaliar, allowed the HEAT to press forward and be dangerous offensively. Spencer Brown thwarted what appeared to be a sure goal, which could have tied the game at 1. Instead, Nick Pennington re-entered the game with 10 minutes remaining in the second half and won a ball off a defender through determination and finished his breakaway calmly to put the game away at 2-0.
Winning this game gave the players confidence that the HEAT are able to compete this year.
Coaches Morgan Marrs and Justin Boersma are very proud of the team's performance today, and are looking to build on their win.
Next week the HEAT Men's Soccer Team will away competing against Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo and Quest University in Squamish.
The Heat will be back in action at home on Saturday September 19th facing Kwantlen University from Surrey.
