Sport: Men's Volleyball Opponent: University College of the Fraser Valley Cascades (UCFV) Location: University College of the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford Results: UCFV defeated Okanagan Lakers 3 – 2 (25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-10) Men’s Volleyball Coach Greg Poitras:
The Cascades outlasted the Lakers winning in 5 sets. Last night proved to the guys that the league is wide open. The guys need to bring their A game for more than a few points at a time. The guys showed a lack of confidence. There are individual concrete things to improve before provincials. We will be tested again next weekend against a top 5 nationally ranked team. Jeff Cundy lead the team with 16 points (10 kills, 5 blocks, 1 ace). Kyle Westgate finished with 14 points (11 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace). Preston Tucker did his job again tonight. Men’s Volleyball Player Jeff Cundy: First night against CBC was a tough battle with a solid team. Missing our starting setter Chris Major might have been a huge factor had it not been for the outstanding play of rookie Preston Tucker. Each set was close and each point of the match proved difficult to win. Some very gutsy play allowed us to come from behind in several sets due to strong defense and work ethic. Second night against UCFV, proved to be even a bigger test against a more well rounded team. We definitely showed ourselves to be worthy opponents even without our full roster. There were a few defining moments where we let up and this allowed UCFV to pull away, especially in the critical 5th set. Overall it was a very even match that just got away.
