Game Summary:

After a less than perfect appearance on Friday night the Heat women had some work to do if they were going to pull off a win against the undefeated Capilano Blues. The girls came out energized and ready to play in the first quarter going deep into the bench in order to keep up their full court pressure. A buzzer beating 3-pointer by Capilano tied up the game at 17 going into the second quarter. Great shooting from beyond the arc saw the Blues take a 42-31 lead at halftime. The Heat kept chipping away at the lead and began to charge back tying the game up at 57 heading into the final quarter. Some huge rebounds and big free throws gave the Heat a 2 point lead with 9 seconds remaining. The Blues had one last opportunity to tie the game up and send it into overtime. Solid team defence on a baseline inbounds play and a huge rebound secured the win for the Heat as time winded down. Rookie Karin Vanderhoek hit some key shots going down the stretch putting up 10 points on the night. Meghan McGill had 10 points in addition to snagged 8 boards. Jenna Kantz and Kim Whelpton both had 10 points and shared 8 out the teams 9 assists.
