Game Recap:
After a dominating win on Friday night, the UBC Okanagan Heat women came out slow and indecisive against a Douglas team that would have liked nothing more than to hand the Heat their first league loss. The Heat were only able to score 11 points in the first quarter after scoring 75 in their game the previous night. UBC Okanagan played sloppy basketball by turning the ball over 15 times in the first half but still managed to carry a lead against the Royals 27-19. After the break the Heat stepped up the intensity on defense by pressing the Royals full court and only allowing them one field goal in the third quarter. Offensively the Royals had no answer for fifth year post Meghan McGill. The Kamloops product dominated the paint, scoring a majority of her 17 points in the third frame. The Heat were able to extend their lead to 36 points, closing out the quarter with a 57-21 advantage. "Douglas being a less experienced team allowed us to go deep into our bench while maintaining consistent play in the second half," added assistant Heat coach Kim Whelpton.
