Comments: Malaspina University College (MAL) Mariners vs Okanagan Lakers

WOMEN’S SOCCER CO-COACH Peter Rochfort:

Once again the Lakers’ slow start proved their undoing. A 5 minute early 1st half swoon gave Malaspina a 2-0 lead. After that the Lakers applied tremendous pressure and only spectacular saves by the Malaspina goaltender kept the Lakers from scoring. The 2nd half saw more of the same and again the goaltending was the difference. Malaspina again scored against the run of play. Rather than fold, the Lakers pressed anew and were rewarded when Liz McTaggart headed in a Samantha Smith cross.

WOMEN’S SOCCER PLAYER Tara Reszitnyk:

Always seems to be too little too late for the Lakers. As repetitive as it sounds, we controlled the play for the majority of the game, but if there is a lack of urgency to go to goal, you just can’t win games. For now, the best we can do is using these lessons to learn for next season. In the end, it’s what is on paper that matters and reflects the most. We just need to find the back of the net. On the other side, our distribution of the ball and offside trap were spectacular. This is a great group of girls and I am proud to be part of this organization. I’m looking forward to improving and winning some games!
