Steve Manuel, Head CoachE-mail: steve.manuel@ubc.ca The 2011/12 season will mark Steve's eleventh year at the helm of the Heat women's volleyball program. After many seasons of being so very close, the Heat went all the way in 2008-09, winning both the BCCAA Provincial Championship and going on to win the CCAA National Title. If there could be one thing better than winning a national championship, it is winning it twice, a feat Steve accomplished in 2009/10 as he went back to back in winning both the provincial and national gold medal. "2008/09 everything came together down the stretch, it was the end result of many years of hard work." In search of a three-peat, he lead the team to yet another Gold medal at the Provincial Championships. The team, however, was eventually eliminated from contention for a medal at the National Championships. Another reward for the years of hard work that Steve and the team have put in is the opportunity to compete in the CIS for the first time this 2011/12 season. |

Karl Enns, Assistant CoachE-mail: karl_enns@shaw.ca Karl is in his tenth year with the Heat women's volleyball team as assistant coach. After competing for a number of years as a player, Karl now passes on his immense volleyball knowledge through coaching. Karl has helped the program win eight BCCAA and CCAA medals in the past eight years. The highlight so far has been the 2008-09 season with a 19-2 record and two Gold Medals. Karl was also a member of the coaching staff that took the Kelowna K-Roos to a bronze medal at provincials and a fifth spot at the Canadian Open in 2001. Karl coordinates our mental training and works closely with the student athletes to teach them how to play the game at a high level. Coming more from a players background rather than through the traditional coaches stream, Karl is able to relate to the athletes in a more tactical rather than technical standpoint. |
