The Biology Graduate Program at the University of British Columbia Okanagan offers research-based degrees to students in a collegial, dynamic setting. Our vibrant faculty and students are engaged in a variety of research projects, many in collaboration with partners in government, non-profit agencies or industry. Our research-based M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Biology provide students with theoretical, practical and analytical expertise, as well as experience in the application of scientific results to real-world problems.
Research interests of Biology faculty members include Cell and Developmental Biology, Genetics and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Paleoecology and Climate Change, Biochemistry, Ecology, Conservation Biology, Plant-Microbe Interactions, Evolution and Physiology. Please refer to the web pages of individual faculty members to learn more. Many Biology faculty are also affiliated with the Species at Risk and Habitat Studies Centre. Before applying, students should contact potential research supervisors directly, as admission to the program requires the support of a faculty supervisor as well as meeting program-specific criteria for admission requirements.
Graduates of this program will, in many cases, meet the academic and reporting requirements for membership in the College of Applied Biology, the governing body for Professional Biologists in British Columbia. Graduates obtaining the M.Sc. will be prepared for positions in government, management, industry, education, consulting or for Ph.D. research. Graduates obtaining the Ph.D. will be prepared for careers requiring advanced independent research and teaching in academia, government and industry.
