Eligibility:
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Applying for support to pursue first Ph.D. or equivalent
- Tenable at recognized universities in Canada or abroad. For study abroad, award holder must have completed at least one previous degree at a Canadian university.
- Open to full-time students and students who are studying part-time because of a disability
Award Value: $ 20,000 per annum for 12, 24, 36, or 48 months
Application process: Complete online application form and submit printouts of all required forms and documents to the College of Graduate Studies Office by the UBCO deadline.

Ontario Graduate Scholarship (Master’s and Doctoral)

Deadlines:
a) SEPTEMBER for students applying through an Ontario university (check university’s internal deadline)
b) NOVEMBER for applicants who apply directly to the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
Eligibility:
- Open to Canadian residents and international students with a temporary resident visa applying to an eligible Ontario university

Rhodes Scholarship in Canada (Master’s and Doctoral)

Deadline: OCTOBER (check your current university’s internal deadline).
Eligibility:
- Rhodes seeks to attract young scholars between the ages of 19 and 25. See website for specific range of eligible dates of birth.
- Canadian applicants must gain the endorsement of their undergraduate institution and go through the institution’s screening process for the Rhodes. One scholarship is awarded annually in B.C.
- Evaluation criteria include intellectual distinction, physical vigour, character, commitment to service, and leadership.
Award Value: tuition, college fees, and stipend to cover living expenses for two years (or three years for those pursuing a doctoral degree) at the University of Oxford for graduate study or for a second undergraduate degree

Eligibility:
- Must be applying to a doctoral program or be registered in the first or second year of a full-time doctoral program.
- Priority given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents but open to foreign students studying at or applying to a nominating Canadian institution.

Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation Dissertation Fellowship (Doctoral)

Deadline: FEBRUARY for Canadian applicants (check funding agency annually for exact deadline)
Eligibility:
- Canadian applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and must become members of the Canadian Asian Studies Association.
- For students writing dissertations in the field of Chinese Studies in the humanities and social sciences.
- Applicants must have completed all requirements for Ph.D. except for the dissertation. Successful candidates are expected to complete their dissertations by the end of the grant period.
- Applicants cannot be employed nor can they receive grants from other sources.

Harry Frank Guggenheim Dissertation Fellowship (Doctoral)

Eligibility:
- Must meet the Guggenheim Foundation’s research priorities, including understanding of the causes, manifestations, and control of violence and aggression; violence, aggression, and dominance in relation to social change; the socialization of children; intergroup conflict; interstate warfare; crime; and family relationships.
- Applicants may be citizens of any country, enrolled in a graduate program at any institution.
- Applicants must demonstrate their ability to complete the dissertation within the grant year, and are discouraged from applying any earlier in their doctoral program. The fellowship supports completion of the thesis, and does not support doctoral research.

Canadian Institute for Nordic Studies Graduate Scholarship

Deadline: FEBRUARY 15th
Eligibility: Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree from a Canadian university or college with high scholastic achievement.
- Provide written evidence of acceptance of the proposed study/research in applicant's field of study at an institution located in one of the Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faeroe Islands, or Greenland.
- Be in residency at the Nordic destination for a minimum of six months.
- Provide a written report to the CINS and give a public lecture after completing the program of study.
