Student Profiles

I have spent most of my life in Kelowna, so when choosing a post-secondary institution, the Okanagan Campus of UBC was a logical decision as it offered the program I was interested in and allowed me to live at home.
Currently, I am in my final semester of my BA, taking a double major in English and French. This summer I intend to enter the education program. An aspect of my program that I enjoy is the small class sizes, which creates a personal and encouraging atmosphere. I also really appreciate the faculty. The professors are approachable, interested in their student's progress and inventive with the assignments.
This semester I have started working in the Writing Centre, which has been a great opportunity for me to share some of my university knowledge and experience with first and second year students. I have also volunteered with the club Borderless and in the off-campus student lounge, The House. It's been really rewarding being involved in the student community at the Okanagan Campus of UBC.

This is my second year in the Visual Arts program at the Okanagan Campus of UBC and it has been fantastic. My classes are small, my profs are great and I know the names of nearly all my classmates.

At the beginning of my grade 12 year I was actually planning on going into Sciences but half way through the year I decided that what I really love is art. This year has been a lot of work, but I wouldn't change it for anything. Now I am on my way to a double major in Visual Arts and Art History and from there I dream of being a curator for a major gallery. Choosing Visual Arts is the best decision I have ever made and kicking off my studies in the supportive and tight-knit community at the Okanagan Campus has made this experience totally wonderful.

I grew up in Kelowna, BC, so the Okanagan Campus of UBC was one of my first choices for a university. I chose it because the campus is close to home and because I love the Okanagan Valley, especially having all four seasons. I am currently completing my Bachelor of Arts, majoring in French and English. I really enjoy all of the French professors and I like that the program is small, which makes it much easier to build relationships with the professors. I also work as a language and writing tutor at the Writing Centre on campus. It's great to be able to help out first and second year students with their papers and to be able to pass on some of the things that I have learned throughout my degree.
Next year, I hope to be accepted into the teaching program, also at the Okanagan campus, where I will be completing my secondary school teaching degree, specializing in French and English.
