Go   New Art History Courses

The Art History and Visual Culture program offers exciting courses that explore the world’s diverse cultures, visual heritages and contemporary art scenes. Faculty have expertise in Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Canada and employ a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Current course offerings are available here .

The program offers a major in Art History and Visual Culture. When combined with the appropriate blend of electives, the major can be used to pursue a variety of graduate and professional programs in areas such as art history, museum studies, education, library sciences, law, urban planning, architecture, public administration, and management. More information on what you can do with a major in Art History and Visual Culture, can be found here .

Courses qualify as general electives and several are crosslisted with other programs such as History, Cultural Studies, and Gender and Women’s Studies and can be used for credit towards those majors.

Students also have the option of completing a minor. The option of a combined major is in development and should be available soon.

It’s a good idea to select a major in your second year and to consult with both Academic Advising and the Art History and Visual Culture program advisor when planning your studies. They can help you become informed about the variety of courses offered that fit your interests and future directions and how to complete your degree on time.

Prospective Masters and PhD students interested in working with faculty in the area of Art History and Visual Culture can do so through Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies. Co-supervisory arrangements with other program areas are also possible. Please contact individual faculty members for further information.
