Curricular Innovation Awards

Program and Application Information [PDF Download]

Four Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences faculty members have received Curricular Innovation Awards for their efforts to foster an exceptional undergraduate learning experience.

  • Andis Klegeris' problem-based learning exercises will enable biochemistry students to study real-life situations and learn how to identify problems, research available information and discover possible solutions.
  • Carl Hodge's lecture-seminar course Contemporary Issues in Law introduces students to the practice of law through interaction with working legal professionals such as two notable guests from the Supreme Court of Canada:  Chief Justice Beverley McLachlan and former Puisne Justice Frank Iacobucci.
  • Patricia Lasserre will systematically test whether student use of an embedded device can reduce the limitations of group communication during team-based learning exercises.
  • Javad Tavakoli's foundational mathematics course promotes cross-cultural communication between Aboriginal thought and traditional European mathematical training.

The Curricular Innovation Awards provide up to $10,000 in support of faculty members in the Barber School to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning. For program and application information about these awards visit the Curricular Innovation Awards website.

3M Teaching Fellowships

3M Canada began collaborating with the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in 1986 with the creation of the 3M Teaching Fellowships. These awards recognize teaching excellence as well as educational leadership.

Hardcopies of nomination forms are available at the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

The Alan Blizzard Award

The Alan Blizzard Award is designed to stimulate and reward collaboration in teaching, and encourage and disseminate scholarship in teaching and learning. University teaching has for a long time been a solitary pursuit. But working independently is not always the best approach to teaching.

This award is sponsored by McGraw-Hill Ryerson in conjunction with the STLHE.
