Conference Theme

The second annual UBC Okanagan Learning Conference will focus on learning free of boundaries-boundaries between disciplines, boundaries between professions, boundaries between learning spaces, boundaries between learners and learning materials and boundaries between learning and technology.

The conference will open with a keynote address by Dr. John Willinsky, Pacific Press Professor of Literacy and Technology at UBC and recent winner of the Blackwell Scholarship Award for his book The Access Principle.  Dr. Willinsky will speak on "A Newly Open and Public Quality to Learning".

Call for Proposals
All interested individuals or groups are invited to submit proposals for 40 minute sessions.  Each session is expected to have an interactive component.  Formats may include discussions, roundtables and presentations on one, or more of the following topic areas:

  1. Interdisciplinary learning:  How do we establish connections across disciplinary boundaries?

  2. Collaboration across professional boundaries:  How do librarians and faculty colleagues work together to support learners in becoming information literate?

  3. Learning spaces:  How do we create congenial space for learning both on campus and in a virtual environment?  What can we learn from students about learning space at UBC Okanagan?

  4. Sharing knowledge:  Are there new ways of sharing and celebrating knowledge?

  5. Convergence and technology:  How can we use new media and converging technology to better serve the learning needs of the Net generation?
