Background:
Dr. Robert Whiteley teaches graduate courses in educational policy and governance in the Educational Leadership stream as well as foundational courses Reading and Discourse in Education and Learning Beyond the Classroom in the Teaching and Learning stream. He also instructs the History and Philosophy of Education in both the Elementary Teacher Education (ETEP) and Secondary Teacher Education (STEP) programs.
Research Interests: Dr. Whiteley researches from a critical theoretical perspective and writes in the field of Educational Leadership, the Politics of Education and Educational Policy Making. He has written on assessment, accountability and educational governance and is currently investigating the future of rural schools in British Columbia. His second research area is in Interprofessional Education and Practice. Currently he is the Principal Investigator, with faculty from the Schools of Nursing and Social Work, on a research project examining the impacts of learning communities on interprofessional education and practice.
Community Involvement:
Dr. Whiteley is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Bridge Youth and Family Services in Kelowna. He is actively involved in Federal, Provincial and Municipal politics and is a keen observer of and active participant in provincial education politics.
