Professional Conversations Speaker Series

The Centre for Research on Mindful Engagement (CRME) will be hosting several speaker series throughout the year. In addition to the Stirring Minds Speaker Series which brings outside experts to the Okanagan, The Faculty of Education will be inviting local Okanagan campus experts as well as Faculty of Education and Graduate Student Speakers to the CRME to share their work with the local campus community.   Please check out our upcoming speaker schedule below.

Graduate Student Brown Onguko
Making a Case for a Whole School Improvement in a Challenging Context

This presentation will focus on implementation of three projects in Brown’s doctoral research school situated in a rural part of western Kenya – a challenging educational context. The three projects were: implementation of a STEM curriculum project between Lumbwa Primary School in Kenya and University Elementary School in Calgary; enabling safe water by providing biosand water filters to the School in Kenya; and teachers’ professional development through blended learning on appropriate technologies operated on solar energy.

Brown Onguko is a doctoral candidate in educational technology at the University of Calgary and currently visiting student at the UBC's Okanagan campus. He is a lecturer at the Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development, Eastern Africa.
