STEP Trades Technology Education

The fundamental purpose of this specialty is to prepare pre-service teachers to teach Technology Education (Tech Ed) in the BC school systems and beyond. As a response to the need for Tech Ed teachers in BC's secondary schools, core courses (EDUC 484 (3) and EDUC 486 (3), and the companion course EDUC 427) prepare this cohort  to

  • develop pedagogical skills in the six prescribed areas (Automotive Technology, Carpentry and Joinery, Drafting and Design, Electronics, Industrial Design, and Metalwork), and
  • learn how to teach in a school shop facility.

Building on each individual’s experience, the critical question that guides this specialty is

What do I need to know, understand, prepare and do in order to teach Tech Ed ~ especially in the context of what I know and have experienced?
