The School Experience Program constitutes the 'context' modules of the Teacher Education Program at UBC"s Okanagan campus. Through seminars, school visits and the extended practicum experiences, student teachers are invited to observe, implement and reflect on professional practice in school communities and specific classrooms.
The practicum provides students with the crucial in-class experience that forms the basis of their experience when graduating into the teaching profession. Experienced sponsor teachers and faculty advisors mentor Education students enrolled at UBC's Okanagan campus through the teaching process and provide valuable feedback as they establish a teaching style.
A Field Guide specific to each program will be distributed to students and faculty advisors in the fall.
The dates of practicum will be established for both the ETEP and STEP programs and will be announced to the Education students at the beginning of each term.
For the School Experience Schedule, please see pages 40 to 41 in the Teacher Preparation Handbook 2011-12.
For general information please see the Okanagan Academic Calendar and pages 23 to 42 in the Teacher Preparation Handbook 2011-12.
For specific details regarding practicum expectations, schedules and procedures, please contact Glenda Field (glenda.field@ubc.ca), ETEP/STEP School Experience Assistant.
