The Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) holds an on-site Certification Workshop each year (TBA) for all STEP and 2nd Year ETEP students. The Teacher Regulation Branch application process is reviewed in detail and information regarding the Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) is provided. Students will submit applications to both the TRB and the TQS.
Upon successful completion of the Twelve-Month STEP (French, Humanities, Math Science and Middle School specialties) and the Two-Year ETEP, the Faculty of Education recommends students to the TRB for a Professional Teaching Certificate to teach in BC and to the TQS for placement on the salary scale.
STEP Trades Technology students are recommended for either a Conditional Teaching Certificate or a Professional Teaching Certificate. Please review the STEP Trades Technology admission requirements.
The reporting process takes approximately two to three weeks from the time the UBC Okanagan Senate approves graduates, as transcripts must be requested and students records reviewed.
Students are required to arrange for official transcripts to be sent to both the TRB and the TQS for course work completed at all post-secondary institutions other than UBC. This includes transcripts for coursework transferred to UBC.
The Faculty of Education submits UBC transcripts to the TRB and the TQS for all students that are recommended for BC Teacher Certification.
