The growth of the School of Engineering has led to partnerships between students, faculty, and industry. The presence of the School in the Okanagan region is generating new technologies and business opportunities for local companies. These partnerships have contributed to the success of our School, and we are fortunate there are a variety of mechanisms for past and present students and faculty to stay involved in the wider engineering community.
Engineering societies offering venues for academic and industry involvement in engineering are as follows:
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC) plays a key licensing and registration role for engineering in BC. On a more local level, the APEGBC Okanagan branch provides industry networking opportunities with the School of Engineering. Accelerate Okanagan creates a link between academia and industry to foster new commercial ventures in the Okanagan Valley, and the UBC Alumni Community offers an excellent venue for graduated students to meet and share their experiences. All these organizations bring together engineering and the community.
