The School of Engineering employs teaching assistants as instructors in tutorials and laboratories, and as graders. The positions are governed by the BCGEU. The number of hours assigned for each class is dependent on the nature of the position (student contact vs. grader) and the size of the class.
Each summer the TA positions are posted and students apply for the positions. The School of Engineering administrator (Ms. Wakeman) meets with each professor, the applications are examined and a TA is chosen. Ms. Wakeman ensures thet BCGEU policies are followed and students are availed of the opportunities to gain valuable TA experience.
Students that receive student contact hours as a TA will be assessed by the students at the end of the term as are all faculty members. These assessments will be taken in to account for future TA assignments. The School of Engineering is proud of the quality education we provide our undergraduate students and strives to maintain this quality at all times.
