Undergraduate students are an important part of the UBC School of Engineering, and the School offers programs for three Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) undergraduate engineering degrees: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The first-year curriculum is common to all three engineering programs and lays the foundation for engineering skills with integrated and project-based learning. After this first year, students can continue at the Okanagan campus, in the second year of the UBC School of Engineering program, or transfer to the Vancouver campus. Detailed course information for progression through these first two years can be found at the program link for the First and Second Years.
The third- and fourth-year UBC School of Engineering programs continue to integrate project-based learning through civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering projects and coursework. Detailed course information for progression through these final two years can be found at the program link for the Third and Fourth Years.
Today’s engineers work in teams to solve a vast array of complex problems and must draw upon a set of broad fundamental engineering skills, including communications. The School's goal is to create well-rounded engineers prepared for the realities and demands of the modern workplace. The UBC School of Engineering offers students the opportunity to complete an engineering degree in an intimate and student-centred program of study. Class sizes are small with a high level of student-professor interaction. Smaller class sizes foster better in-class discussions, teamwork, and opportunities for field trips and enhanced laboratory experiences.
