Advancement / Fail

The School of Engineering Student Development Office regularly reviews the academic performance of all undergraduate engineering students and promotes them to the next year level or forces them to withdraw from the Faculty, as appropriate.  The School of Engineering Student Development Office also updates the central record system to reflect the results of those reviews.  Student progress is also monitored and adjudicated on a Faculty-wide basis by the Faculty Committee on Admission, Standing and Courses chaired by the Associate Dean - Engineering Programs.

All students must achieve a passing grade (i.e., 50% or more) in all courses comprising the program.  Students receiving less than 50% in a required course must repeat that course.  Students receiving less than 50% in an elective course can repeat the course or take different elective course.

To pass the year, a student must both obtain an overall average of at least 55% in the Winter Session and pass 65% of credits taken.  A student who fails a year will be required to discontinue studies in the Faculty for at least one year but is eligible to apply for readmission after that year.  A student who fails a second time will be required to withdraw.  In a failed year a student will be granted credit for all courses passed.

Students who withdraw during Term 2 of Winter Session after obtaining less than 55% on the December examinations will not be readmitted for the following Winter Session but are eligible to apply for readmission after that year.

Students must pass APSC 176 (or equivalent) prior to promotion to third year.  Students must pass APSC 201 (or equivalent) prior to promotion to fourth year.
