Faculty and Research

The School of Engineering strives to graduate engineers that are able to conceive-design-implement-operate complex value-added engineering systems in modern team-based environments. We transition students that come into our programs into individuals that can truly 'engineer' when they leave. In doing so, we create engineers that can create, maintain and improve many aspects of our modern world.

The report "2005-2010 - Five Years of Building Excellence" summarizes our first five years of research accomplishments.

Our faculty have competed successfully for over $10 million in research funding to support all aspects of research, including the purchase of new equipment to create our world class facilities, funding for student salaries and operational expenses, and funding to attend conferences to share research results.

Much of the funding has come from NSERC through Discovery, Strategic Project, Idea to Innovation and Research Tools and Instruments grants.  Funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation and the BC Knowledge Development Fund totalling over $2 million has been instrumental in acquiring the equipment necessary to establish leading edge facilities for our experimentalists.  Two generous grants from Genome BC and Western Economic Development has funded the set up of the integrated research and machining centre and the scanning electron microscopy facilty.  Our faculty have also established relationships and have performed funded research from various private companies and public organizations.  These collaborations have resulted in direct research funding, letters of support for research activities (typically including in kind contributions), and donations of equipment.
