The IELTS requirements are that students should acheive an overall band of at least 6.5 with no individual score less than 6.
SInce the undergraduate education in Engineering at BUET is in English, students do not need to take a test to prove English competency.
Admission is determined by examining the entire application package. Transcripts are used by professors to examine an applicant's grades in specific classes as well as the overall GPA. Letters of reference and written sections of the application package are also used. Many faculty ask students to submit written proposals and conduct telephone interviews with prospective students. You do not need to identify a supervisor to apply but you will need to indicate potential supervisors on the supplementary examination. We only admit graduate students on the request of a faculty member willing to supervise your research, so you should contact faculty members and initiate a discussion with them to determine common research interests. We currently have an international partial tuition scholarship so international Students pay the same amount as Canadian students unless they have a scholarship form their home country that pays tuition.
There are tuition fellowships that have been issued for one year terms. These are under review.
There are opportunities for TA funding. The amounts vary depending on the TA classes and how many hours are required for each class. Ph.D. students earn 14.08 per hour for marking and 29.78 for in class contact hours. The incumbent TA’s have priority in selection but TA slots are freed up when students graduate or decide not to TA any more.
