Civil Engineering - Environmental Engineering

The field of environmental engineering is concerned with studying, modeling, and mitigating contaminants in water, soil, and the air. The research in the field of environmental engineering at UBC O includes projects headed by Dr. Cigdem Eskicioglu, Dr. Deborah Roberts, Dr. Rehan Sadiq, Dr. Bahman Naser, Dr. Sumi Siddiqua and Dr. Solomon Tesfamariam. We are currently developing world-class facilities for experimental and theoretical research in the following specific areas:

  • IX BioNovel anaerobic treatment systems
  • Emerging biosolids pretreatment processes
  • Innovative biowaste to energy technology
  • Real-time detection of pathogens in water
  • Sustainable drinking water distribution systems
  • Human and ecological risk assessment
  • Contaminant fate and transport modeling
  • Advanced modeling of biological systems
  • River engineering
  • Soil remediation
  • Influence of pore fluid chemistry on the behaviour of clayey material

The academic program includes advanced environmental engineering courses. Students select their courses in consultation with their research supervisor and the graduate chair. The undergraduate or previous graduate preparation, the knowledge required for the research project and the student’s career plans are taken into account during course selection and academic planning.

If students are interested in licensure from APEGBC as environmental engineers please see the APEGBC academic requirements for Environmental Engineers by clicking here.

To apply to the program please determine which of the faculty members from the links above performs research in an area of your interest, choose one as a potential mentor and follow the apply now link below.
