Civil Engineering - Water Resources Engineering

Water Resources Engineering focuses on studying, modeling, monitoring and management of water sources to benefit humans and the environment. The research in this area at UBC O includes projects headed by Dr. Rehan Sadiq, Dr. Bahman Naser, and Dr. Deborah Roberts. We are currently developing world-class facilities for experimental as well as theoretical research in the following specific areas:

  • Modeling, Monitoring, and Optimization of Water Distribution Systems
  • Water Quality Degradation and Hydraulics in Distribution Systems
  • River Engineering
  • Sediment Transport
  • Urban Environmental Systems
  • Risk Assessment and Reliability Analysis for Water Systems
  • Real Time Detection of Pathogens in Water
  • Modeling Microbial Processes in the Environment

The Water Resources Engineering academic program includes advanced water resources and environmental engineering courses. Students can select their courses in consultation with their research supervisor and the graduate chair. The undergraduate or previous graduate preparation, the knowledge required for the research project and the student’s career plans are taken into account during course selection and academic planning. The courses listed below are suggested for students interested in the water resources engineering option, but students may select courses from any 3rd, or 4th year undergraduate or graduate level courses at UBC Okanagan or UBC Vancouver if the supervisor and graduate chair approve.
