Message from the Director of Interdisciplinary Studies

Welcome to Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies (IGS) at the UBC, Okanagan campus! Our intimate and diverse community attracts master’s and doctoral students engaging in studies that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries.  Since its inception, Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies has been a mainstay of the campus’s identity and today it accounts for just over 40% of its total graduate student population. The student’s role in planning an IGS degree is active as he or she works with a supervisor and program committee to shape the research and study.

The possibilities for research range across the academic disciplines bound and are linked by the campus’ six faculties:

-  Applied Science
-  Arts and Sciences
-  Creative and Critical Studies
-  Education
-  Health and Social Development
-  Management

Professors in these faculties have a range of expertise worth exploring. To match your research interest with a potential supevisor as you craft your application to the program see this list of contacts.

The program also supports several themes that reflect vibrant and focussed research initiatives:  Health and Human Exercise, Indigenous Studies, Optimization, and Latin American and Iberian Studies.

It is an exciting time on campus with groups of professors, not bound by a department but by common research interests, develop new themes that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries. Come and be part of it!
