Application to Graduate

Every candidate for a degree must make a formal application to graduate via the Student Service Centre (SSC). An application is required regardless of whether you plan to participate in the scheduled ceremonies.

Preparing to Graduate

Students may convocate in either November or June annually. A convocation ceremony is not held in November and students who choose to graduate in Novemeber will be invited to participate in the June convocation ceremony.

November convocation deadline - August 31.

June convocation deadline - February 28.

A student may apply for graduation before the final thesis is approved, though they will not be permitted to graduate unless all degree requirements are completed and the final thesis is approved by the College of Graduate Studies (CGS) by September 30 for November convocation and April 15 for June convocation. Students are encouraged to keep these deadlines in mind as they prepare for the examination and thesis submission.

Graduation Application Deadlines

For graduate students, all degree program requirements must be completed by the degree completion deadlines set by the College of Graduate Studies (see below).

No student will receive a degree until all outstanding fees have been paid in full.

Students in thesis-based programs have additional deadlines that must be considered. Please consult the Master Thesis Submission Deadlines section of the website.

Fees Payable Upon Completion of Degree

Candidates who have paid more than the minimum installments for their degree will have their tuition fees prorated to the end of the month in which the Dean, College of Graduate Studies, confirms that all degree requirements have been completed which includes the submission of either their major paper or final project to their department or their thesis to the College of Graduate Studies.

Note: Student fees are not prorated. Fees are due in September, January, and May for graduate students.
