Term Appointment – Visual Arts
The Department of Creative Studies requires an instructor for term 2 of the 2012 winter Session (January 1, 2013 – April 30, 2013), to teach three courses:
VISA 290 Special Topics in Visual Art
Content TBA dependent on instructor.
VISA 265 Computer and Image Development II
Advances the understanding of the use of computer applications for artists with emphasis on technical, conceptual and expressive concerns.
VISA 382 Advanced Practice in Media Arts
Advanced interdisciplinary course addressing the importance of technology-based approaches in contemporary art with emphasis placed upon the formation of an idea and the media most appropriate to its expression.
Preference will be given to practicing artists with a MFA degree and post-secondary teaching experience in a Visual Arts program.
Duties will include teaching, holding regular office hours, marking all assignments and exams, and reporting grades.

Instructor, Interdisciplinary Performance (Term Appointment)
The Department of Creative Studies at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus invites applications for a 10 month term appointment to teach undergraduate courses within the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme in Interdisciplinary Performance. This position will begin September 1, 2012 and end June 30, 2013.
The ideal candidate will be a practicing artist with a completed MFA in Physical Theatre, Dance/Theatre and/or other related studio performance training and will have relevant university teaching experience. We will consider applications from experienced professional performance practitioners who do not possess a terminal university degree. The position will include responsibility for teaching 6 courses (5 in the winter and 1 in the summer):
THTR 101 Acting I: Improvisation - The Body in Performance A physical approach to improvisation as it relates to live performance and the creation of theatre.
THTR 102 The Actor's Process I Introduction to physical and vocal training and intercultural, movement-based performance work rooted in European experimental theatre and non-Western performance traditions.
THTR 201 Acting II: Actor/Creator Resources Research and exploration of diverse sources in the creation of new performance work. Sources will include natural and man-made materials, paintings, objects, music, and poetry.
THTR 202 The Actor's Process II Intermediate physical and vocal training and intercultural, movement-based performance work rooted in European experimental theatre and non-Western performance traditions.
THTR 280/480 Devised Public Performance An intensive laboratory course in performance creation leading to a public presentation. Compulsory rehearsals will be scheduled outside of class time.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake some administrative responsibilities as determined by the Department Head. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Interdisciplinary Performance (INTP) program at UBC’s Okanagan campus is housed in the vibrant Department of Creative Studies that forms one half of the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. The INTP program focuses on performance creation (devising) and requires students to complete core courses in three disciplines: Creative Writing, Visual Arts and Theatre. The dynamic combination of studio and workshop training in these disciplines combined with courses in Art History and contemporary art and cultural theory in the Department of Critical Studies provides undergraduate students with a broad understanding of artistic practice.
The Faculty offers both discipline-based and interdisciplinary programs at the undergraduate and graduate level, including programs in Art History and Visual Culture, Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, English, French, Interdisciplinary Performance, Spanish and Visual Arts, along with courses in Japanese, German, and Ancient Languages. The Department of Creative Studies requires an instructor for term 2 of the 2012/13 Winter Session (January 1, 2013 – April 30, 2013) to teach the following courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Performance programme:
THTR 111 Introduction to Theatre and World Performance Traditions
Cross-cultural investigation of Western and non-Western performance traditions and practices including realistic, experimental, and intercultural theatre, as well as ritual performance processes.
THTR 211 Performance, Embodiment, and Creativity
Interdisciplinary investigation of the history, theory, and practice of performance as an embodied creative process and a form of artistic research.
THTR 411 Performance Studies
Seminar in the interdisciplinary field of performance studies, broadly conceived as the investigation of aesthetic, ritual, and everyday life performance practices.
These courses are part of a 4 year BFA in Interdisciplinary Performance. INTP students are enrolled in Visual Arts studio courses, Creative Writing workshops, and Performance training courses. All of these courses are open to students from other degree programs; THTR 411 is cross-listed with Cultural Studies, which is housed in the Department of Critical Studies. The ideal candidate will be (directly or indirectly) familiar with the pedagogies of Jacques Lecoq and Eugenio Barba. Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD degree and post-secondary teaching experience.

SPANISH: WINTER SESSION
The Department of Critical Studies requires instructors to teach courses in the following programs in Term 1 (September 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012) and Term 2 (January 1, 2013 to April 30, 2013) of Winter Session 2012-2013.
Spanish instructors are required to teach first and second year Spanish language courses. Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD in the field and with experience teaching at the post secondary level.
The Department of Critical Studies requires instructors to teach courses in the following programs in Term 1 (September 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012) and Term 2 (January 1, 2013 to April 30, 2013) of Winter Session 2012-2013.
English instructors. English instructors are required to teach sections of ENGL 112, 150, 151, 153, and one web-based section of ENGL 153.
Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD in the field and with experience teaching at the post secondary level.
