Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the Faculty of Health and Social Development at UBC's Okanagan campus. My name is Dr. Gordon Binsted and I am the Acting Dean of the Faculty. We have developed this website to help you in furthering your career as a health professional by providing information about the Schools and Programs of the Faculty.  Please contact us if we can be of help to you.

Why Health and Social Development?

Health and Social Development programs suit those who have an interest in working with people. Health professionals make a difference in the lives of others through helping to improve the health of individuals and communities and helping to prevent and treat disease, mental disorders, and family social problems. Our Faculty is dedicated to providing “real-world” learning and to ensure that the courses are made relevant to address important health and social problems.

Why UBC's Okanagan campus?

UBC's Okanagan campus is a close-knit community, which gives you the opportunity to get to know your professors.  Here, class sizes are deliberately kept small and taught by highly skilled and experienced professors. Real world experience is an essential ingredient in UBC's Okanagan campus education.  We give graduates a great head start at the local and international level by providing practical, hands-on learning experiences through our practicum placements with hospitals and clinics, non-profit organizations, and industry.

Where are we?

The Okanagan Valley is home to one of Canada’s fastest-growing high-tech hubs and one of North America’s headquarters for adventure.  UBC's Okanagan campus is in the heart of it all. The campus is located minutes from the city’s downtown, easily accessible by car or transit.
