FIRST AID & AED

First Aid is available to staff, faculty & students 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.  First Aid treatment can be accessed either by visiting the First Aid Room in the Administration Building (ADM006) during regular working hours or by calling 78111 after hours for a First Aid Attendant.  First Aid Attendants are equipped with a Level 2 First Aid Kit, oxygen, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) & EpiPen.

FIRST AID ATTENDANTS

First Aid Attendants are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.  Campus Security provides this on-call service and is accessed by phoning local 78111.  A campus Security Officer will respond to your location within 10 minutes.  In the residences First Aid is also available from the Resident Advisors.  Resident Advisors are Level 1 certified.  For non-emergencies you are encouraged to walk to the First Aid Room for treatment.

FIRST AID ROOM

The First Aid Room is located in the Arts Building (A223) and is open during regular working hours (8:30am-4:00pm).   For non-emergencies you are encouraged to walk to the First Aid Room for treatment.

FIRST AID TRAINING 

This course is open to students, staff and faculty interested in becoming certified as a Level 1 first aider.  This basic first aid course is designed to provide skills that include; minor wound care, CPR and obstructed airway management, hemorrhage control, recoginition of spinal injuries and stabilization of the injured worker until a higher level care is available.  ThIs course also provides individuals with information relating to WCB regulatory requirements and appropriate documentation. AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED)

The First Aid program was further enhanced in 2006 with the introduction of a comprehensive AED program.  An AED is used to treat individuals experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest.  There are four AEDs on campus.  They are located in Security's First Aid kit (mobile), the First Aid room (ADM 006), Health and Wellness (UNC 337) and the gym (GYM 020).  AEDs are to be operated by trained individuals only.

EPIPEN

EpiPens are located in the First Aid Room as well as Security's First Aid kit.  EpiPens are used in the treatment of anaphylactic shock caused by an allergic reaction to such things as peanuts and wasp stings.
