Academic Probation

Calendar Policy

This information is specific to Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science students for the 2011/2012 academic year. Students in other degree programs should refer to their Faculty or School’s academic regulations policy in the calendar.

There are three levels of academic standing:

  • In Good Standing;
  • On Academic Probation; and
  • Failed

UBC Okanagan has determined that a student shall be placed on Academic Probation under the following circumstances:

  • has taken 12 credits or more in the session and has either passed fewer than 65% of the credits, or has a session average of less than 55%

OR

  • has taken less than 12 credits in the session and have either passed fewer than 50% of the credits, or has a term average of less than 50%.

Sessional evaluations take place after the Winter Session is complete and if you are placed on Academic probation you will be notified by email. The consequence of this standing is a limitation on your registration in the next winter session to no more than 9 credits in each of the two terms. Probation standing is not noted on your official UBC transcript.

The Academic Advising Office can help you with any academic difficulties you may be experiencing by connecting you with the appropriate resources and services. We are located in the University Centre UNC 222 or contact us at (250) 807-9100, and by e-mail at advising.ubco@ubc.ca
