Page Types and Templates

Design Elements

There are two design elements to every ACM page, its Page Type and its Design Template.

The Page Type is determined when you create the page, and a design template is applied to each page after the fact.  If no design template is specified, the page will take on the template of its parent.

Page Types include, but are not limited to:

• Surveys
• General Content 2
• Link

Design Templates include, but are not limited to:

How a page looks on the web is dependent on the combination of page type and design template chosen.

For example, if a 1 Col design template is applied to a General Content 2 page type, the contents of the HTML ONE and HTML TWO editing areas are displayed one after the other with a width of 100%.  This is useful when displaying wide tables with many columns.

In order to have the contents of the HTML TWO editing area displayed in the right-hand column, you will need to apply a 2-column design template to the page, either the 2 Col, 2 Col (Wide) or Nav 2 Col.

Note: The only time this is NOT necessary is when the PARENT of the new page already has the 2 Col design template applied to it.

Applying Design Templates to Pages

To apply a new template:

1. After logging into ACM, click System button
2. Click Site Design Manager
3. Select your site from the dropdown list (should be selected by default)
4. Using the small plus (+) arrows, browse to the page you’d like to change the layout of.
5. Click Edit link
6. Un-check ‘Use Parent Page’s Template’
7. Select desired template (i.e. ‘Nav 2 Col’) from the Template dropdown box
8. Click Save
9. Browse to the page and Submit/Emergency Publish

Note that you can also choose a template for ALL child pages of a parent.

To do so:

1. After logging into ACM, click System button
2. Click Site Design Manager
3. Select your site from the dropdown list (should be selected by default)
4. Using the small plus (+) arrows, browse to the parent of the pages you’d like to change the layout of.
5. Click Edit link
6. Select desired template (i.e. ‘Nav 2 Col’) from the Child Template dropdown box
7. Click Apply to Children
8. Click Save
9. Browse to the pages and Submit/Emergency Publish, or... call Vanessa to have the group of pages Exported to the live server.

In order to access the Site Design Manager, your individual user account must be set-up with the appropriate access.  If you don't have either a 'System' button or 'Site Design Manager' link, please submit a work request at www.ubc.ca/okanagan/helpdesk.
