The UBC Okanagan School of Nursing offers a four year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program with access points for Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses who want to complete a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The program is reviewed by the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia and is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing.
The nursing program is approved by the Provincial Government and the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC). At the completion of the program you will be eligible to apply to the CRNBC to write the National Licensure Exam and on successful completion apply for provincial nursing licensure, which is required to practice as a Registered Nurse in BC. Click here, http://www.crnbc.ca/ to learn more about the CRNBC.
When you complete your education program and apply to be a registered nurse you are required to meet the Competencies in the Context of Entry-Level Registered Nurse Practice in British Columbia and the Standards of Practice for registered nurse in British Columbia. For a student to obtain the Competencies for Entry-Level Registered Nursing Practice, certain basic skills and abilities are required and it is important that you are aware of these prior to applying for admission to the nursing program. The requirements are called the Requisite Skills and Abilities and can be viewed at http://www.crnbc.ca/downloads/464.pdf.
If you are accepted to the nursing program you will be required to sign a letter indicating that you aware of the fundamental requirements of the requisite skills and abilities of nursing, that you understand the requirements and that you believe that you have the ability to meet the requirements. If you have concerns about whether or not you have the required skills and abilities for admission to or progression through the nursing program you can contact the disability resource center at 250.807.9263 or on the website at http://www.ubc.ca/okanagan/students/disres/welcome.html
