September

Residence bound? – Students can move into residence the Sunday before classes begin. If you plan on helping your son or daughter move into their residence room, you will experience Opening Day. Current students and alumni will be waiting for you to pull up to the curb, ready to unload boxes and help move your son or daughter into their new room. Parent Conference – As the anxiety and excitement intensifies – for parents and students alike – come out to campus and meet fellow new UBC parents, faculty, and staff. Parent Conference is designed to help you get a sense of this new adventure your son or daughter is about to embark on, and of all the support that will be available to them at UBC Okanagan.

Clubs at UBC Okanagan – If your son or daughter is wondering how to get involved on campus, encourage them to attend UBC Okanagan's Club Day. Students can look for signs during the first week of classes or check the club listing on the Students' Union website.

 

Tip: Encourage your son or daughter to join a new group, activity, or club every term. They will enjoy some; they will dislike others. But, they'll never know until they try!

October

Mid-terms – While there isn't a specific day on which mid-terms begin and end at UBC Okanagan, students generally spend much of October buried in their books, preparing for and writing mid-term exams.

Thanksgiving Day – The University is closed on Monday, October  13, 2014, for Thanksgiving Day.

 

Tip: Familiarize yourself with UBC Okanagan resources. In the first year, your son or daughter may not know about all the resources that are available to them. While students are informed of a lot of these resources, we encourage families to learn about the support that is available and point your son or daughter in the right direction. November

Mid-term break and Remembrance Day – There is a one-day mid-term break on Monday, November 10, 2014. The University is also closed on Monday, November 11, 2014 in lieu of Remembrance Day.

 

Tip: Encourage your son or daughter to get familiar with the UBC Okanagan Library. The UBC Okanagan Library can assist students in navigating UBC's 22 different library branches and can offer tips on how to succeed in their academic research and writing.

December

Term 1 final exams – December exams take place from December 2 to 17 for most faculties (day and evening classes included). Saturdays are included in the exam schedule. Students will be informed of the schedule in mid-October.

Reduced student services – The University will be closed on December 25 & 26. There will be reduced student services in most departments from December 29, 2014, until January 5, 2015.

 

Tip: Offer your son or daughter suggestions on successfully completing their final exams. Encourage them to visit the Academic Resource Centre website.

January

New Year's Day – The University will be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2015, for New Year's Day holiday.

First day back in residence – Residence will reopen for students in Term 2  January 4, 2015.

Reading Week break – Most faculties will cancel lectures and laboratories between February 10 and 13, inclusive. The library and select other facilities will remain open.

Mid-terms – Mid-term exams tend to fall shortly after Reading Week for most courses. Students are encouraged to use the variety of resources available to them in order to ensure exam success. Visit the Academic Resource Centre website for more information.

March

Term papers – Many students will be in term paper writing mode in March. The UBC Okanagan Library can assist students as they navigate UBC's 22 different UBC libraries and can offer tips on writing successful term papers.

April

  Good Friday and Easter Monday – The University will be closed on Friday, April 18 and Monday, April 21, 2014.

Term 2 final exams – April exams take place from April 12 to 30 for most faculties (day and evening classes included). Saturdays are included in the exam schedule. Students will be informed of the schedule in mid-February. Leaving residence – Students living in residence are required to move out 24 hours after last exam or by 12 noon, May 1, 2014, whichever is earlier.
