BRAGGING RIGHTS!

The Psychology Department would like to highlight the successes of some of our Faculty, students and graduates.

  

 

CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Stephen Porter, co-winner of the 2013 Award for Excellence in Research, along with Dr. Joan Bottorff.  Both were honoured at a gala ceremony and reception at UBC’s Okanagan campus on Friday, March 8. (Media release).

We would like to congratulate Dr. Susan Holtzman, Dr. Stephen Porter, Dr, Zach Walsh, Julia Shaw, and Dr. Mark Holder for being recognized with Honour Roll Teaching distinctions for 2012-2013!   Honour Roll 2013
 

We are pleased to anounce that Nathan Ryckman has just won a highly competitive Commonwealth Scholarship for doctoral studies in NZ.  The 3-year award begins in 2013 and includes an annual grant consistent with Canadian Tri Council Agencies, as well as coverage of fees, medical and travel insurance, and airfare to and from NZ.  Nathan’s doctoral work will be at the University of Auckland.

Raquel Graham's thesis titled "An Experimental Study of Social Rejection: Can Physical Pain Increase Social Pain?", is this years winner of the "Head’s Best Written Thesis Award" for 2012.

 We are pleased to announce that Alysha Baker has been selected to receive the first annual “Robert Hare Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research".

This award is for undergraduate students doing research in Forensics Psychology.   Dr. Stephen Porter supervised her work.

Congratulations to Dr. Paul Davies, Associate Professor of Psychology, who is this year's recipient of the 2012 Teaching Excellence and Innovation Award for Junior Faculty! 

We would also like to congratulate Dr. Michael Woodworth, Dr. Mark Holder, Dr. Paul Davies, and Dr. Stephen Porter for being recognized with Honour Roll distinctions!

 Leanne ten Brinke was a guest on CBC's  "Quirks and Quarks" March 31st 2012.  She was speaking about her doctoral research on deception detection in high-stakes situations - public appeals for a "missing" loved one, some of whom were murdered by the person making the appeal.  To listen to the podcast, click here.  Leanne teb Brinke 2

Congratulations to Alysha Baker, first place winner of the EAPL Research Award in the area of psychology and law (EAPL).

Also note that three of our other students - Pamela Black, Natasha Korva and Aisha Bhanwer got honourable mentions in this competition. Way to represent the CAPSL!!
