Criminal Record Check Requirement

Under the Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA), the School of Social Work is required to ensure all students submit to a criminal record check. The legislation states, “all students registered in any certificate, diploma, or degree program that has a practicum involving working with children or vulnerable adults” must participate.

New and current students must complete and sign the Consent to a Criminal Record Check using the form attached here. It is the student’s responsibility to follow all instructions (see below) carefully and submit the form along with payment ($20 non-refundable fee) to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (PSSG). It is recommended that students apply no later than June 1* to ensure that the School receives a response prior to classes commencing in September.

Note: Current students (pre - 2011 admission) will be given some latitude regarding the application and September deadline for receiving these checks due to the late implementation of this policy. However, students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as field placements after September 2011 can not commence without this clearance being in place.

For complete information regarding this requirement and the types of offences being reviewed go to the Ministry for Public of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records Review webpage .
