Distance Education

Are you interested in taking a course at another institution, either on campus or through distance education? If so, it’s helpful to know that you are able to take up to 60 credits towards your UBC degree from another university or college.

To have courses from another institution applied toward your UBC degree, here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Find the course you want to take (see the list of distance education options below).
  2. Check the BC Transfer Guide to see how it will transfer from a college to UBC's Okanagan campus.
  3. Get a Letter of Permission (LOP) approved by your faculty advisor or dean’s office.
Note: A Letter of Permission is required by UBC students prior to beginning studies at another institution (e.g., a college, another university). An LOP is not required for UBC courses offered through the Centre for Teaching,  Learning, and Technology.
  4. If you are planning to take a course outside of BC, you also need to provide course descriptions to your faculty advisor for approval.
  5. Enroll at the institution as a visiting student.
  6. When you have completed the course, order your transcript and have it sent to:
    UBC Okanagan Enrolment Services
    UNC 322 3333 University Way
    Kelowna, BC Canada V1V 1L7
  7. Submit the Request and/or Review of Added Credit form to the same address.
