On-campus Wage Subsidy Programs

There are two wage subsidy programs available for UBC departments and organizations to help you hire students. For UBC Okanagan faculty and staff, Career Services administers wage subsidy programs that benefit both on-campus employers and students.

What is Work Study?

Work Study is an employment program that provides students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents with the opportunity to work on campus in a variety of jobs and earn additional income to help finance their education.

What is Work Learn?

Work Learn is an employment program that provides undergraduate international students with the opportunity to work on campus.

Qualified students can work a maximum of 12 hours/week up to a maximum of 300 hours for the winter session(September to April) and 20 hours per week up to a maximum of 300 hours for the summer session. (May to August). Students appointed to a single-term position in Winter Session (September 1 to December 31, or January 1 to April 30) can work a maximum of 150 hours.  Please read the eligibility information carefully and apply early! For every qualified student hired through Work Study, UBC Okanagan contributes $9 per hour to the student's wage (the supervisor pays the remaining amount), to a maximum of 300 hours per session ( two terms) OR to a maximum of 150 hours for one term.

NOTE:  You will not receive a wage subsidy reimbursement for any hours incurred by your student above their maximum authorized number of hours or outside the dates of their appointment. At the end of the session if a timesheet is submitted after the payroll deadline date resulting in an off cycle pay to the student, Work Study will rebate only the first payroll off cycle.
