What happens at a career fair?
A career fair is a one day event that connects students with potential employers. The atmosphere is welcoming: you get to approach people working in the company or sector where you might want to work. The event gives you the chance to introduce yourself to potential employers to:
- gather information about career options
- discover the diversity of job titles and roles within each company
- hear about job leads
- talk and ask questions
- practice promoting your employability
- make connections to develop your network
How can I prepare for a career fair?
Do some research
- Find out which employers are attending the Career Fair
- Decide which ones you're most interested in talking to
- Research the employers you'd like to meet by reading their introductions and checking out their websites
Get ready to promote yourself to employers
- Prepare or update your resume
- Develop a 30-second introduction
- Develop questions to ask employers about their workplace
- Dress the part to impress
