Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at a career fair?

A career fair is a one day event that connects students with potential employers. The atmosphere is welcoming: you get to approach people working in the company or sector where you might want to work. The event gives you the chance to introduce yourself to potential employers to:

  • gather information about career options
  • discover the diversity of job titles and roles within each company
  • hear about job leads
  • talk and ask questions
  • practice promoting your employability
  • make connections to develop your network

How can I prepare for a career fair?

Do some research

  • Find out which employers are attending the Career Fair
  • Decide which ones you're most interested in talking to
  • Research the employers you'd like to meet by reading their introductions and checking out their websites

Get ready to promote yourself to employers

  • Prepare or update your resume
  • Develop a 30-second introduction
  • Develop questions to ask employers about their workplace
  • Dress the part to impress
