Student Eligibility

Undergraduate students must:

Be enrolled in at least 9 credits per term (Term 1 and/or Term 2).

The 9 credits cannot be made up of  distance education classes.

Credits for Directed Studies, Practicum placements please contact the Work Study Program Coodinator. Decision will be based on an individual case

Credits for a co-op placement are not eligible credits.  

Student is not eligible for work study subsidy if the student is working under another subsidy program such as NSERC award and Canada Summer Jobs.

 

Be enrolled in at least 6 credits at any time during the Summer Session.

 

The 6 credits cannot be made up of  distance education classes.

Credits for Honors Thesis are not eligible.

Be full-time, degree-seeking students.

Students can contact their academic advisors to find out what's considered full-time registration in their faculty.

If you were registered full-time in both Term 1 and Term 2 of the previous academic year, you do not need summer courses to be eligible.

If you were not full-time in the previous academic year, you must be registered in full-time studies during the summer session

Be a degree seeking student and is returning to full time studies the following September

Students can contact their academic advisors to find out what's considered full-time registration in their faculty.

Graduate students:

PHD students are not eligible to work in the program.

Masters Students  - must be paying full time fees. Student does not qualify if the student is a recipient of a scholarship or an award that pays their tuition in its entirity.

Student must be paying a portion of his/her tuition.

Funding Eligibility:

  • Students are not eligible for  work study funding when research is based on their own thesis work.
  • Students only eligible for work study funding when the research being done is for the purpose of assisting a faculty member on a different research topic/research question separate from their own thesis work.

 

Are not eligible for Work Learn.
Other student eligibility: Not applicable.

Visiting and exchange students are not eligible for Work Learn.

Students must have a study permit that is valid for at least six months.

Students must be registered in one of the following faculties or departments:

  • Applied Science
  • Arts
  • Management
  • Education
  • Human Kinetics
  • Science
  • Social Work

Hours & Terms

Other position conditions: Students may only accept one Work Study position in Winter Session and one in Summer Session.

The position can be on or off campus.  Please contact Deanna Simmons, Work Learn Coordinator to find out how to qualify for an off campus position.
