Bring your documentation to the meeting with Coordinator
After we review your disability documentation, we will prepare an accommodations letter, which you will provide to your instructor at the outset of the term.
Contact your Coordinator if you and your instructor cannot reach an agreement about your accommodation.
Complete the necessary forms if you are requesting services such accommodated exams, notetaking, or alternate format materials.
Keep the DRC informed of any concerns or issues.
You are required to complete all four steps. However, if you are writing your exams directly with the instructor or department, the following steps do not apply.
Pick up an Exam Booking Form (Blue Sheet) from the DRC office.
Take the form to your instructor and ask him/her to complete and sign it. Give them enough time to complete the form. (It is your responsibility to ensure that your instructor has entered all the information completely and accurately).
Return the form to the DRC office, in person. Do not leave the form under the door or give it to someone else to drop off for you.
Forms must be returned at least 7 days before the scheduled exam date – both before mid-terms and before the start of the formal final examination period. Remember to factor in any statutory holidays when the University is closed. Deadlines are posted in the Academic Calendar
Instructors are responsible for providing the DRC with the exam. You are not required to do this, nor are you required to return it to your instructor after completion.
Once you have been granted eligibility for alternate format materials, you must:
Submit an Accommodations Request Form to the DRC Clerk (each term).
The DRC Clerk will then provide you with a letter to take to the UBCO bookstore to purchase your reading materials.
Bring the materials to the DRC with the invoice from the bookstore.
Provide the course syllabus for each course you require AF
It takes four to six weeks to process Alternate Format material so, the earlier you submit your request the more likely it is you will have your AF material in time for start of class.
Completed alternate format materials will be available for you to pick up from the DRC.E-texts are emailed directly to the email address you provided in the SSC. All materials are intended for your use only. Electronic materials may not be redistributed to others.
If you are approved to receive the notetaking service, you will need to complete an Accommodations Request Form at the outset of each term for which you require notes. Requests for notetaking must be completed by the end of the first month of the term. The DRC will do its best to fulfill notetaking requests. However, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be filled.
Hours: 8:30am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday
You are welcome to use the lab if you require adaptive technology or if your disability results in mobility difficulties, preventing you from using campus computer labs. If you require training in adaptive technologies or software, please speak to the DRC Clerk to request technical tutoring.
