Undergraduate Students

Students can conduct research abroad through Go Global in two ways:

  1.
    1. By participating in an established program
    2. By conducting self-directed research abroad
      • Seek your own supervisor and lab at a partner institution
      • Incorporate research into your exchange experience

Choosing an established program

What to consider

  • Check the program's eligibility requirements
  • Consider the area of research - know your interests, set goals and research your options
  • Check whether the host institution offers any stipend, housing, insurance, or academic credit

Benefits

  • It's all set up and students have done it before
  • You'll most likely have a project
  • Most offer academic credit (check first)

Disadvantages

  • May require a higher academic average
  • Programs may be competitive
  • Costs may be less flexible than if self-organized

Self-directed research abroad

Benefits:

  • Your choice of lab, your choice of research
  • More countries to choose from
  • Costs may be more flexible than through a formal program
  • Timing is more flexible
  • Go Global will assist you once you find your supervisor

Disadvantages:

  • You need to find the opportunity yourself
  • There may be unforeseen costs (more solid in a set program)
  • Programs may not offer academic credit
