Our Nurse Clinicians at UBC Okanagan are Registered Nurses that provide primary care to students on campus. They work collaboratively with the other members of Health and Wellness to promote health and wellbeing, prevent illness and injury, as well as monitor disease. Nurse Clinicians can assist students with physical, emotional or social concerns, health assessments or sexual health counselling or supplies, nutrition, fitness, alcohol, drugs, or communicable diseases. They can also support students with quitting smoking, making lifestyle changes, or managing chronic diseases. Nurse Clinicians are available to help with an emergency situation or crisis and will make appropriate referrals as needed. Nurse Clinicians also work at a macro-level on campus to promote a healthy campus life through education and participatory action.
Our Medical Doctors at Health & Wellness provide episodic and continuing primary care to students. They can provide consultation on referral from the Nurse Clinicians and liase with specialists in the community.
Physiotherapy involves the evaluation and treatment of a range of diseases, disorders and disabilities using physical means. Physical therapists help to relieve pain and restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by illness, injury or some other disability. We provide individualized treatment of an injury or disability based on scientific knowledge and a thorough assessment of the condition. Physical therapists use exercise, manual techniques and physical modalities to help people stay mobile and free of pain. Physiotherapy is involved in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions including stress related problems, orthopedic injuries, post surgical care and sports related injuries, just to name a few. We are university trained members of the health care team at the Health & Wellness Centre and see patients on a referral basis from the health care practitioners.
