Coronavirus (COVID-19) and UBC’s response

Mar. 17, 2020 – 4:10 p.m. PDT

Countries around the world, including Canada, are working to contain the current outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Within British Columbia, Provincial Medical Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, the BC Centre for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Vancouver Coastal Health are leading the coordinated response to COVID-19. UBC continues to take direction from the BC Provincial Government as we plan and consider next steps.

UBC has taken a number of measures in support of social distancing protocols, including:

  • Piloting a remote working arrangement for faculty, staff, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and student employees
  • Transitioning to online classes effective Monday March 16, 2020 for the remainder of the term
  • Cancelling all on-campus and off-campus events with more than 50 people (including sporting events), whether indoors or outdoors
